Welcome to local Capacities for Peace - South Asia
South Asia, despite its rich cultural heritage grabs the headlines today for its contexts of violence and tension. South Asian countries have gone through and going through painful periods of internal conflicts, war, bloodshed, violence and terror. The internal tensions between multiethnic and multi-cultural communities that constitute the South Asian nations pose a major challenge to peaceful living in the region and have a strong influence in defining its geopolitics and economy. Besides there are also issues such as national identity, interstate conflicts, regionalism, caste and class conflicts. Virtually all countries of the region are subject to violent riots, insurgencies and civil war.
The concept of local capacities for peace or Do No Harm paves the way of working in a conflict situation without disturbing the existing harmony against the group and also without causing tensions amongst the group.
In September 2004, a meeting of EED Partners was held in Delhi where the idea of mainstreaming Local Capacities of peace was conceptualized and eventually, programme on mainstreaming LCP started in January 2005.The programme runs through a network of nine partners in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal.
The cooperating organisations under LCPP work in situation of actual or potential conflict. They strive to contribute to the establishment of a just and peaceful society, which provides equal chances and access to all members of society irrespective of belief, caste, gender or ethnic affiliation. All the partners in South Asia are committed to mainstream and implement DNH approach & LCP Tools in its program planning and monitoring and evaluation process.
